What do Chuck Schumer, Joe Bruno and the Albany Parking Authority have in common? They are all part of the honorary committee for the awarding of a "Medallion of the University " to Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings. (Presumably Hillary has been busy.) He's been "a tireless voice for the citizens of Albany." Check out the rest of the honorary committee at the bottom when this thing finally finishes loading.

This is the sort of honors that happen at the end of one's career. Last time I checked, Jennings was ramrod straight and perfectly tanned, although a while back The Mayor did say that The Wife was responsible for the gray on one side of his head. ("Only one side?" she said.) Let's just consider this more evidence that we are going to see a new mayor, perhaps sooner than we expect.

What happens next? Earlier this year Jennings was thought to be hoping for a job in the Spitzer administration. Rumor has it that he's hoping Hillary wins the big one and transports him into the ozone. Or maybe he'll retire to admire his medallions. But I'd be willing to bet he'll leave town, perhaps like his predecessor Tom Whalen, who bolted to the suburbs before his last term of office expired.

Well, at least the cash goes to scholarships for grad students who live inside the City of Albany. Many thanks to our not to be identified informant who passed this along.
