ALBANY -- Police closed Western Avenue by the University at Albany campus Tuesday night after a pedestrian was struck by a car while trying to cross the street.
According to police and witnesses, the incident occurred shortly before 9:45 p.m. near the corner of University Place, outside UAlbany's Management Services Center. The man was rushed to Albany Medical Center Hospital with head injuries, Detective James Miller said, but his name and condition were not immediately available.
The driver stopped at the scene, Miller said, and was not charged. According to an employee of the A-Plus convenience store across from the scene of the accident who identified himself as Ahmed, the victim visited the store just before the collision and used the ATM. He described him as a middle-aged man.
"It's a dangerous intersection," Ahmed said, pointing to University Place. "It's not good because cars are coming from different directions."
Police were seeking video surveillance footage that may have captured the accident. Miller said the incident remains under investigation.
