Man Hit by Car Dies From Injuries

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The man who was hit by a car on Western Avenue Tuesday night has died.

Family members have confirmed to police that Thomas Betz, 42, was the man hit by a car while trying to cross Western Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

Police said Betz might have been intoxicated when he walked in front of a Jeep Liberty driven by Ryan Sharter, 21, of Albany. The driver had the green light, but Betz apparently disregarded the pedestrian signal.

He suffered multiple injuries including severe head trauma. Family members said Betz passed away early this morning from his injuries.

Sharter is not being charged.
