The other day I sent the following email to Louise McNeilly, who rallied the neighbors and made sure we all went down to the Elks Club on Nov.4 to try and save our Delaware Avenue PO:

I'd mailed my comments on the 12th (last minute as usual) so as a backup I also emailed them to this guy Desrosier, who you might recall was telling people to email comments to him directly. (He told me that.) But look what I got in reply:

Begin forwarded message:
From: "Desrosiers, David H - Albany, NY" <David.H.Desrosiers@usps.gov>
Date: November 13, 2009 1:34:38 PM EST
To: "Daniel W. Van Riper" <dwvr@mac.com>
Subject: Out of Office: Comments: Delaware Ave. Albany

I will be out of the office 11/05/09 thru 11/17/09, retruning on 11/18/09. If you need assistance immediately please call 518-452-2376 to speak to Karen or 518-452-2329 to speak to Debbie.

I am suppressing several curses.

Louise wrote back to me the following:

Ha. Yes, I got that message too from something I sent this week. And I tried to call his office and speak to Karen and Debbie - no luck. So either we have a little more time to comment or he's made his decision and left town. I did hear from regional closure office that we made our case extremely well, were excellent organizers and obviously loved our neighborhood. Doesn't tell me a thing except that we probably did the best we could in the circumstances.

Much thanks to Louise for organizing resistance to this corporate menace.
