UPDATE: Country's top housing official visiting Capitol

By David Lombardo
Thursday, April 25, 2013

U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun L. S. Donovan is coming to the state capitol tomorrow, according to four sources with knowledge of the visit.

No additional information about the trip was available, although one source said the appearance would include a red room presentation. Two of the sources said the announcement will be at 11 a.m.

One source with knowledge of the visit said the visit is related to Hurricane Sandy. At the end of last year, Donovan was tapped to lead the federal government's response to Sandy.

A call to the press office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo was not immediately returned. A call to the Albany field office for HUD was not immediately returned.

Cuomo has some familiarity with HUD, which he was appointed to lead after Bill Clinton was re-elected president in 1996. According to Cuomo's website, while at HUD, he launched a top to bottom reinvention of the agency and won bipartisan praise for turning around the troubled operation.
